August 22, 2009Boz and Curly's Musical Quiz Survey . . .MY ANSWERS MIGHT DIFFER FROM OTHER PEOPLE'S . . .
1. Song that mentions (at least) one city Talking Heads Cities / "think of London, a small city, dark, dark in the daytime . . . find a city, find myself a city to live in . . ." 2. Song from your childhood Edvard Grieg Hall of the Mountain King / we still run around the house when we hear it, much to the dismay of the cats 3. Christmas song Cecil Frances Alexander Once in Royal David's City / the opening of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols broadcast live on public radio from King's College Chapel in Cambridge every Christmas eve morning, chillingly beautiful 4. Song that makes you think of a person who means a lot to you Tulsa Drone Motor Comptoir / my Tokyo flight take-off music, makes me think of my bro/pal 5. Male/female duet ???? There are thousands, but I can't think of a single one 6. Song you've formerly misunderstood the lyrics to Carl Orff Carmina Burana: O Fortuna / sounds like horror movie music (and we've blasted it a full volume on Halloween for such an effect) but the Latin lyrics are really about young lovers in spring, something I did not discover until reading the translation while at a live performance at the Dorothy Chandler 4-5 years ago 7. Song with 'rock n roll' or 'rock' or 'roll' in the title The Clash Combat Rock / ok, ok, I know that'a an album title, but I love the song Ghetto Defendant 8. Song that comforts you Boards of Canada Dayvan Cowboy / this music feels soooooooo good, I used it for my thousands of wings video so I got to listen to it over and over as I synched up and cut the video clips 9. Song with a hidden meaning (like sex, drugs etc) (See Carmina Burana above) 10. Cover song (that you like more than the original) John Goodman People Like Us / his cover of the Talking Heads song from David Byrne's movie True Stories is sooooooo much better than the orignal 11. Song you used to hate/not like but grew to love Calexico Feast of Wire / the whole recording, first listening was "hmmmmmmm??" second listening was "hmmmmm!!!!!" 12. An instrumental song Johann Sebastian Bach Tocata & Fugue / only the organ version (and not the fast version), and only at a volume loud enough to shake the entire house (amazingly, this is not objectionable to cats)
